Several
Caribbean countries have their own currencies, for
example the Barbadian or Guyanese Dollar. The regional
sub-grouping the OECS uses the Eastern Caribbean dollar
as it official currency. The U.S. dollar is widely
used in the Caribbean and in some countries (US and
British Virgin Islands, Turks & Caicos and Puerto
Rico) is the official currency. On French islands
(particularly Guadeloupe and Martinique) U.S. dollars
are accepted but the franc is preferred by local businesses.
Of course, credit cards are commonly accepted as are
travelers checks.
