bullet EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

The majority of the countries maintain age 3 as the entrance age in formal pre-primary education, while a few others such as the Turks and Caicos Islands and Guyana maintain age 4. In the English-speaking Caribbean, early childhood education (for children aged 0-3 and 4-5), for the most part, has been an endeavour of private initiative and is voluntary.

The main features of Early Childhood Education are:

  • Type of school: Nursery School, Kindergarten
  • Length of program: 1 - 4 years
  • Entrance age: 2 - 5
